Mobicip vs Net Nanny and the Software We Recommend for Protecting Yourself Online

With more millennials taking their own lives in response to cyber bullying, many people are looking to online filtering software to alert them of potential problems before it becomes too late.

We took a look at three popular parental control software programs in order to help you safeguard your teen’s online safety. In this article, we go over Mobicip, Net Nanny and Qustodio but we also recommend you to research what is best for your particular needs.

There is a free version of Mobicip, but the features are very limited. Mobicip offers a wide range of device compatibility (Android, Kindle, Nook, iOS, Windows PC, Mac OS, and Chromebook). The downside with Mobicip is that it doesn’t include any social media monitoring or phone or text supervision. The premiere version protects up to five devices for one year for $39.99. Mobicip is awkward during set-up, and not as intuitive as the best programs. However, once it is set up properly, it provides decent filtering and blocking, time management, and monitoring and reporting.

Net Nanny

Net Nanny’s Family Protection Pass costs $59.99 per year for up to five devices, $89.99 per year for up to ten devices, and $119.99 for up to fifteen devices. The software is usable on Windows, Android, Mac, and iOS devices. Net Nanny offers superb filtering and blocking and great monitoring and reporting features. Detection seeks out key words and phrases that could be signs your child is being cyberbullied or stalked by a sexual predator. It then sends you notification via email, which you can program to arrive at varying levels of frequency. This flexibility keeps you in the loop and allows you to intervene in the development of potentially dangerous situations.

Qustodio is a browser-based website and pornography filter that can help make the internet safe for your teens. The cost is $54.95/year for up to 5 devices or $96.95/year for up to 10 devices. Beyond being a mere website blocker, it is a tool that combats the efforts of sexual predators. It can also help you nip cyberbullying in the bud before your teenager is seriously impacted. Due to its diverse features that include social network monitoring and tracking smartphone activity (both text messaging and phone calls), we feel Qustodio is our software of choice.

Make sure to remember, that just because you purchased an app doesn’t mean that your teen is safe. These software programs can help alert you of a potential problem but if you don’t set it up properly, your tech savvy teen will outsmart you. If in doubt, read the manual and reach out to support. But the best piece of advice I can give to you, is to do your best to have an open, trusting relationship with your teenager and hopefully that will cut down on the need for this type of software.
